FAQ for mAdb Transition to Single Sign On (SSO)

(1) How will I know when my mAdb account has been transitioned to using NIH Login?
An email will be sent notifying you that your mAdb account has been switched to the mAdb SSO web site.

(2) How will I know for sure which User name and Password I'm being requested to enter?
The displays are quite distinct, the request for a mAdb User name and Password is a popup dialog box while the request for an NIH User name and Password is a Web Page. Samples are shown below.

Sample Dialog Box requesting your mAdb User Name and Password:

Sample Web page requesting your NIH User Name and Password:

(3) Will I still use the same URL to access the mAdb SSO web site?
No. The mAdb SSO web site is using Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS), a combination of the Hypertext Transfer Protocol and a cryptographic protocol. HTTP URLs begin with "http://" and use port 80 by default, HTTPS URLs begin with "https://" and use port 443 by default. The home page for the NCI mAdb SSO web site is: https://madb.nci.nih.gov/ and the home page for the NIAID mAdb SSO web site is: https://madb.niaid.nih.gov/

(4) What happens if I forget and I access the original mAdb web site?
When you first access a restricted tool, you will be prompted for your mAdb login and password (as before). Once your mAdb credentials are accepted, the mAdb system will recognize your login as a switched user and will automatically redirect you to the mAdb SSO web site.

(5) What happens to data sets I've created in my mAdb workspace?
The mAdb SSO web site shares the same mAdb workspace and database as the original web site, so all your data sets, uploaded lists, settings, projects, etc. remain the same.

(6) Will I still have access to mAdb if I leave NIH? Will collaborators outside NIH still be able to access mAdb?
There will be access to mAdb without an NIH login. For outside users who are authorized to use mAdb, accounts will be created in the NIH external domain. This allows them to be authenticated on the mAdb SSO web site.

(7) What differences will I encounter using the mAdb SSO web site?
Your NIH login credentials are good for a maximum of 12 hours (2 hours if you are idle). Towards the top of most mAdb SSO pages, you will see a line like this "Authentication Token Expires Wed Jul 29 at ~9:15PM EDT". When your tokens expire, you will be required to again authenticate your NIH login. Although inconvenient, this should not interfere with your work flow. A new feature is the ability to "Log out" without closing your browser. You will see the "Log out" link towards the top of most mAdb SSO pages.
